It was almost 20 years ago when Resident Evil 3 released on the original PlayStation console. Now in less than a month’s time, we will see a full remake release. We’ve come a long way since then from a technical level, and we’ve got a direct comparison between the two showing how starkly in a new video.

The video was released via the official PlayStation channel and shows snippets of the 1999 original and the upcoming remake. We see early sections and how they differ. We get to see Jill taking on some zombies that she dispatches with an exploding barrel, one of her early encounters with the dreaded Nemesis, and her first meeting with Carlos.

There’s obviously some big differences. The visuals have, of course, improved a good deal with new character designs, and the remake has a traditional behind the back third person view versus the fixed camera of the first title. To be fair to the original, it’s one of the best looking titles of the PlayStation since it released at the end of the system’s life. The remake will also lack some things, such as the live selection choices that could create branching paths. Check it out below.

The Resident Evil 3 remake will release on April 3rd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with a demo coming soon. The original Resident Evil 3 was released for a variety of platforms over the years but unfortunately is not available on modern systems. The last release was via PSN which is playable on PS3, PSP and Vita.
