Resident Evil 4 Remake is out now, and though it’s a long and eventful adventure, Capcom apparently still has plenty of plans for the survival horror game where post-launch content is concerned. First up is fan-favourite mode The Mercenaries, which will be added to the game as free DLC on April 7.
Recently, dataminers were able to discover renders of playable characters for the mode, which will also apparently include Luis Serra, who wasn’t playable in the original. Now, more datamining by Gosetsu (shared by Resident Evil Central on Twitter) seems to have brought to light descriptions of the stages and characters that will be featured in the remake’s Mercenaries mode.
Where characters are concerned, descriptions have been discovered for Leon, who is described as an “all-round, balanced fighter”; the aforementioned Luis, who has “good firepower but weak close-quarters abilities”; Krauser, who has “strong melee attacks and explosive arrows”; Hunk, who has “a high-performance submachine gun” and “a unique melee attack that can kill instantly”; Ada, who comes equipped with “a variety of weapons to deal with any situation”; and Wesker, who “can parry with his hands and even deliver melee attacks on distant enemies”.
Meanwhile, the unique Mayhem Mode abilities for each character also seem to have been unearthed. Leon and Ada’s attack power and speed are greatly increased, Luis can use dynamite, Krauser can mutate and deal “close-quarter attacks or thrust attacks”, Hunk gains access to unlimited ammo, and Wesker can perform combo melee attacks.
Additionally, descriptions for four playable stages in the mode have also come to light, all of which are, of course, pulled from the campaign itself. There’s the Village, where the game’s opening firefight takes place; the Castle, where cannons and catapults will be an important feature; the Island, where players will find plenty of fixed turrets; and the Docks, where players will fight a number of airborne enemies.
As always, it’s worth keeping in mind that this is unverified information, but with The Mercenaries set to launch not long from now, hopefully, it won’t be too long before details start getting revealed in an official capacity.
Meanwhile, leaks have previously claimed that Capcom also plans on releasing the Ada Wong-focused campaign, Separate Ways, as paid DLC for the remake down the line, which is something else that recent datamining has also pointed to.
Capcom has also previously confirmed that it’s working on PlayStation VR2-exclusive content for the game that will be released as free DLC at some point.
