Resident Evil 7 continues the good run that Xbox One X owners are having over the last week or so. Interestingly, Resident Evil 7 was PS4 Pro ready when it launched all the way back in January 2017 and now that the Xbox One X enhancement patch is available, we can now fully compare the two versions against each other.
Resident Evil 7 runs at around 1700p (checkerboard) resolution on the PS4 Pro. However, on the Xbox One X it utilizes checkerboard resolution to reach a full 3840 X 2160 resolution. Now this is a rather interesting choice, because from a technical perspective Resident Evil 7 isn’t really a title that will melt your hardware so we are quite surprised why the game is not able to run at a native 4K presentation on the Xbox One X. Perhaps it’s the target 60fps performance and to be honest, there is only so much you can do with the available hardware.
So overall, Resident Evil 7 is best played on the Xbox One X if you are a console owner. Checkerboard 4K isn’t really native 4K but it comes close. This is yet another decenet patch for the Xbox One X and it’s great to see developers utilizing the potential of the Xbox One X in various different ways so that they can reach a desired level of performance.
