There are many franchises that come and go, but there are very few that manage to stand the powerful test of time. Of those franchises, it’s rare for them to be of the horror variety. But one franchise has stood above its peers: Resident Evil. Today, the series publisher and developer confirmed a massive milestone, and a surprising fact.

We have actually known that the franchise passed 100 million units sold worldwide, but that was just due to obvious math based on quarterly earnings and report. Capcom has made it official now in a press release that the series has broken that incredible milestone. They also reveal a very interesting stat: over 80% of sales have actually come from outside their home country of Japan. While it’s probably not surprising that more sales come from the west, since the game’s have always been geared closer to that audience, but not to such a margin.

The latest game in the series, Resident Evil: Village, is slated to come out next year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC, so this series isn’t stopping anytime soon. You can read more about that through here.
