Resident Evil Umbrella Corps

What exactly is going on with Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps? The recently announced shooter, which was first showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2015? As it turns out, it does fit into the Resident Evil timeline, as revealed by producers Masachika Kawata and James Vance to GameSpot.

Kawata explained the reason for the name as well. “It’s almost in an ironic way that we’re using the title Umbrella Corps. If you know your Resident Evil lore, Umbrella no longer exists at this time in the universe; it’s been destroyed.”

Players will essentially take up the role as mercenaries who, according to Vance, will “go into these areas where some kind of biological terror incident may have occurred to try to extract something with value.” The mercenaries work for organizations who are working on becoming the next Umbrella essentially.

Vance did confirm that there’s “there’s no forward-facing story”, which means players shouldn’t expect a single-player campaign in the traditional sense.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps will be out on PS4 and PC in early 2016.
