Respawn Entertainment—the studio behind games like Titanfall 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Apex Legends—has been hit by layoffs as part of larger cuts taking place throughout EA. As spotted by VGC, various current and now-former members of the Respawn team, including Apex Legends level designer Aaron Stump, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to talk about the layoffs.

“The Apex team was hit with layoffs today,” said Stump on X. “It sucks seeing some of the people I’ve worked with for almost 3 years now get let go. Hopefully, they land on their feet sooner rather than later.”

Apex Legends‘ global social media lead Alex Ackerman has revealed that she was also part of the layoffs, and took to X to thank the studio and the game’s community for its support.

“After 20 Seasons of Apex and 5 years at Respawn nearly to the day, my job has been made redundant and I have been laid off,” wrote Ackerman. “Working on this game and supporting this community has truly been the honor of my career and a highlight of my life. Thank you for everything, legends.”

Respawn Entertainment has been going through a bit of a rough patch recently, especially with the studio’s single-player Star Wars-based shooter having been cancelled back in February. The game was rumoured to have featured large open areas, and was to be based on a Mandalorian character.

The studio is rumoured to be currently working on a new game set in the Titanfall universe. The game, however, is not a sequel to the Titanfall series, and will allegedly instead be a side game in vein of Apex Legends.
