While Dynasty Warriors, and its various spinoffs, hack and slash away for eternity, the younger, chiller brother series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, goes about things at its own pace. The last entry in the strategy franchise was several years ago, but now the fourteenth installment of the franchise is about here, and Japanese players will get it to kick off their year.

At the Tokyo Game Show, publisher Koei Tecmo showed a new trailer as well as a new release date for the 16th of the first month of 2020 for Romance of the Three Kings 14. The game promises new twists on familiar gameplay, as you play through a loose adaptation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms time period in Chinese history.

The game will release for PlayStation 4 and PC. As of now, there’s been no western release date pinned down, only that it will come early 2020. It can be somewhat a coin toss with how the game’s have been previously localized, but it’s not too out there to expect to see it in the west not too long after January.
