The Saints Row series has often been known for its extensive customization options and the upcoming reboot will be no different. Speaking to Game Informer, developer Volition shared its vision for customization while also revealing its extent. As CCO Jim Boone states, “Customization is one of the definitive things that Saints Row is known for. Not just the characters, but even the vehicles. And in Saints Row 4, we introduced weapon customization. It’s extremely woven into the DNA to the degree where I feel like if you don’t have customization, it’s hard to say that you’re a full Saints Row game.”

Along with eye color, gender and skin tone options, players can also add prosthetics to their version of The Boss. Art director Frank Marquart says, “We’ve achieved dreams. There were things that we really tried and we could not do on previous titles that we can now do in this game.” As players progress through the story, they’ll also unlock customization options for weapons and vehicles. It will be possible to personalize the gang, and also upgrade and decorate the Saints’ headquarters in various ways.

“A target from day one is to be the kings of customization. We want to give our players all the things they’ve had in the past and more. That’s what we’ve done,” says creative director Brian Traficante. Boone also notes that the customization will carry over into co-op. “Each co-op player looks exactly how you have customized them when in a co-op session. All the customization options you have entered will be on full display without limits.” While the full suite of options has yet to be revealed, it’s something to look forward to.

Saints Row is slated to release on February 25th 2022 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the coming months.
