Scalebound (1)

PlatinumGames delayed the release of Scalebound because, in part, they wanted to give the game “time to breath” and make sure it was as good as it could be. Now the developers are talking about their approach to putting the title together as well as what their philosophy is when it comes to writing the story behind Scalebound.

PlatinumGames’ Executive Director Atsushi Inaba gave a rather informative talk at GDC 2016, and he spoke at length about Scalebound. He said the title had quite a few RPG elements because Platinum believes this genre has more elements of character development than others. Inaba said the primary goal is to grow the dragon from hatchling to a fully formed fighting machine along with the human character that will have a unique set of actions.

In short, Inaba said the development team has attempted to merge certain aspects from the RPG world with the action game world. He added he has a strong preference for character development, and this means he believes the human in the story, named Drew, will someone players will be able to get to know and understand. You can check out Inaba’s entire speech below. Scalebound is slated for release sometime in 2017.
