The early months of 2024 have seen Microsoft stepping up its efforts to bring its first-party Xbox titles to audiences on rival platforms, with Hi-Fi Rush having released for PS5 and Obsidian duo Pentiment and Grounded both having launched for PS5 and Switch. Sea of Thieves arrives for PS5 later this month, and though Microsoft hasn’t officially announced further plans to bring any other of its games to rival consoles beyond that, reports continue to insist that there’s more stuff in the pipeline.

The Verge’s Tom Warren has stated in a recently published report that Microsoft is looking at Sea of Thieves’ PS5 launch as a “key test”, based on which it will gauge how worthwhile it is to bring more of its first-party titles to PS5 and Switch. The company is allegedly continuing to “evaluate other Xbox-exclusive games coming to PS5.”

A recent report claimed that Microsoft was planning on bringing “the majority” of its first-party titles to PS5 eventually. Earlier this year, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer refused to rule out multiplatform releases for flagship Xbox titles, saying, “I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform.”

Earlier this year, prior to Microsoft officially announcing multiplatform releases for the four aforementioned first-party titles, leaks claimed that several other Xbox games were also being considered for other consoles, including the likes of Starfield, Gears of War, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and more.

Meanwhile, following official confirmation that Hi-Fi Rush would be releasing for PS5, reports claimed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game was also planned.

Sea of Thieves is set to launch for PS5 on April 30, with a closed beta kicking off on April 12.
