A rather interesting tweet popped up yesterday courtesy of Xbox Australia which noted that Rare’s Sea of Thieves would be releasing in February 2017 for Windows 10 and Xbox One. The tweet has since been removed and Microsoft has now debunked reports of the same.

The first statement was from a representative that spoke to GameSpot who noted that, “Our next goal beyond E3 is a closed beta where we’ll get some of our keenest fans involved in playing the game and providing feedback to the studio. We have nothing further to share at the moment but will have more details in the future.”

Xbox head of marketing Aaron Greenberg then noted on Twitter that, “Love seeing excitement for Sea of Thieves, but we have not announced a launch date yet!”

Sea of Thieves was originally thought to release in 2016 but was confirmed to have been delayed to 2017 (along with the news that it would be coming to Windows 10). Stay tuned for more information in the coming months (GDC perhaps?) on the actual release date.
