One of the stranger aspects of Sony’s E3 2016 was when they used their platform to announce Shenmue 3…as a Kickstarter? As strange as it was at the time that Sony was making a major announcement out of asking fans who have ached for it to fund the conclusion to Ryu’s saga, which ended on a cliffhanger back on the Dreamcast, the title smashed all crowdfunding records to end up with a cool $6,333,295.
Having been pushed from December 2017 to sometime late this year, Producer Cedric Biscay speaking from his own Twitter has reconfirmed that 2018 date for Shenmue 3, but also mentions some other, as of yet unknown surprises. Shenmue 1 and 2 remakes or remasters have too many clues around at this point to not be real, but Biscay’s company is involved in other things like Astroboy as well, so it’s unknown what this could mean.
Were you one of the kickstarters that helped make Shenmue 3 a reality? Do you have any hopes for it to be everything you’re hoping for after so many years of expectations? Let us know in the comments.
