Shin Megami Tensei 5 was hotly anticipated for the years in the lead-up to its launch, and thankfully, it ended up living up to the high expectations we all had for it. Its critical reception has also been reflected in commercial success, and Atlus has also provided exact numbers for how the game has sold so far.

In a new year message published by Famitsu, Atlus said that Shin Megami Tensei 5 has “got off to a good start”, and has sold over 800,000 units worldwide since its release midway through November. That’s a solid number any way you look at it, but even more so for a fairly niche game in a franchise that has historically not been the biggest number. The fact that the game saw a simultaneous worldwide launch and that it’s available on the Switch surely must have helped with its sales.

As a point of comparison, Shin Megami Tensei 4, which released for the 3DS in 2013, had sold over 600,00 units within two years of its launch. Shin Megami Tensei 5 becomes the fastest-selling game in the series.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch, though reports have suggested that the RPG could also be headed to PS4 and PC. You can read our review of the game through here.
