Sega has shown off new gameplay from Sonic Frontiers during its Sonic Central livestream. Alongside the new gameplay, Sega has also released a new animated special, titled Sonic Frontiers: Prologue.

The animated special stars Knuckles, and is set before the events of Sonic Frontiers. The special is essentially a teaser for a full, longer animation, which is set to release before the game.

New gameplay footage of Sonic Frontiers shows Sonic riding along paths created as part of what appear to be boss fights. Further details about the upcoming game have been revealed by a special hands-on preview by IGN.

According to the preview, Sonic Frontiers is intentionally going for a more sombre tone, as indicated by its music, as the game is more about the mysteries of the island that Sonic is stuck on. Sonic Frontiers will also feature boss fights in its open world, described as nearly Shadow of the Colossus-styled in their scale.

An earlier video showed off over six minutes of combat from Sonic Frontiers. It features plenty of different enemy types, locations, and attacks.

Sonic Frontiers is set for a Holiday release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
