Sony is beginning to look into the possibility of bringing Arrowhead Game Studios' acclaimed co-op shooter to Xbox, it's been claimed.

Sony’s multiplatform release strategy has accelerated rapidly in recent years, with the company now viewing PC as a much more prominent part of its larger strategy, especially where live service titles are concerned. Earlier this year, for instance, Helldivers 2 launched simultaneously for PS5 and PC, and it’s fair to say that the majority of game’s unexpected success has been thanks to PC audiences. Now, interestingly enough, it looks like Sony might be considering ways to bring even larger audiences into Arrowhead Game Studios’ acclaimed co-op shooter.

XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker recently claimed on the XboxEra Podcast that Sony is in “very, very early preliminary discussions” about the possibility of bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox Series X/S. Baker stresses that given the early stages these discussions are in, there’s every chance that things don’t align the way they should and end up falling through, though he claims that currently, Sony most certainly is considering the potential of bringing the shooter to Xbox audiences.

It’s worth pointing out that Sony hasn’t yet given any indication that it could adopt a multiplatform release strategy that sees its titles releasing on rival platforms the way Microsoft has, though given Helldivers 2’s live service nature, it wouldn’t be surprising if the company does indeed view Xbox’s audience as the right fit for the shooter’s target demographic.

Earlier this year, interim PlayStation CEO Hiroki Totoki spoke about wanting to be more “proactive” and “aggressive” with its multiplatform releases on PC in order to improving Sony’s profit margins on first-party titles. Whether that means Xbox releases will also be considered for certain titles remains to be seen.

Back in February, shortly after Helldivers 2 came out, Xbox boss Phil Spencer expressed his frustration at the game not releasing for Microsoft’s console. Read more on that through here.
