According to several major retailers, due to the incredibly high demand of PlayStation 4 consoles, Sony has issued statements across the UK, likely to the rest of Europe that not all pre-ordered consoles will be delivered on release day. Sony has issued statements to these retailers urging their customers to complete their pre-orders before August 5th, as after that date a release date PS4 is not guaranteed. As of now, the deadline has yet to be issued to the US and Japan.
However, while the supply for pre ordered consoles will be lowered, Sony has also told these stores that they will be additional consoles to the stores for day-of purchasing. So, PS4 hopefuls don’t lose hope yet.
This shortage was not unexpected, as last July the chief of PlayStation America warned against this very happening saying, “I certainly think, given the technology that we’re offering, given the software line-up, given the price point we have, that we’ll have consumers interested in excess of what we’re able to manufacture.”
A concrete release date is yet to be set for the PS4 release, with Sony promising a “holiday 2013” launch.
