While Absinthe Games revealed last week that developers would have to endure the cost of updating PS4 titles to allow for 4K upscaling on PS4 Pro, the position has once again been confirmed by Sony.

Of course, the actual clarification is in response to SIE’s Masayu Ito who stated that devs could potentially charge for updates to upscale PS4 games to 4K. Sony informed Games Radar in a statement that they “will not charge consumers for patches”. What are developer’s thoughts on having to foot the bill? It’s not like they’re required to upscale for PS4 Pro but it should be interesting to see what the response is in the coming months.

The PS4 Pro releases on November 10th and will cost $400. An update releases later today to enable HDR for normal PS4 consoles in anticipation of the PS4 Slim so stay tuned for more information when that goes live.
