Patents have come out for a new Sony controller/tablet called the “EyePad”. The sketches showcase a D-Pad, buttons, SixAxis controls…but its key attraction is the touchscreen and illuminated LED lights around it.

Because those lights represent stereoscopic cameras that can translate movements and motions, besides rendering objects into the game you’re playing. The best example of this would be specific gestures and such translating into the game, with certain motions performed by hovering your hand over the touch screen and having the same motion play out onscreen.

It’s unknown how gameplay elements will utilize this new tablet, which admittedly reminds us too much of Nintendo’s Wii U Gamepad. Another blatant case of trying to ape Nintendo? We’ll soon find out as Sony will be holding an event on February 20th to showcase the future of Playstation.

Of course, the smart money is on the PS4 being announced but hey, two birds, one stone, right?
