Sony Responds to PS4 Message Bug, Says It Is Working to Resolve It

Sony is planning a system update to resolve the issue.

The PS4 is currently beset by an unusual glitch where, upon receipt of a very specific kind of message in your inbox, your console crashes, and your only recourse is to reset the whole thing. It’s obviously inconvenient, especially since it can result in a total loss of data too.

In our report on the issue, we noted that for now, the best thing to do is to set your message settings to Private, so you can’t receive the offending PM that causes the error. Thankfully, you won’t have to do this for long, because apparently, Sony is aware of the issue, and working to address it via a system update.

Speaking to VG247, Sony said “We are aware of the situation and are planning a system software update to resolve this problem.”

Hopefully the fix comes soon, before the problem percolates too widely, and causes too many crashed PS4s or lost save files. After all, this is the kind of problem Sony’s going to want to get ahead of, especially as we head into the all important Holiday shopping season.
