One of the most unlikely successes for Nintendo over the last few years is probably the Splatoon series. The quirky competitive shooter is all about squids, who are also kids, who spray ink on each other. While it feels a little too eccentric for its own good, it found major success with the first title on the Wii U, and continued that with Splatoon 2 on Switch. Major support for the latter has ended, but it seems next month we’ll have something of an encore.
As announced on the official Nintendo Versus account below, next month will see a bonus Splatfest. It’s a callback to the very first Splatfest in the game: Mayo vs Ketchup. The event will again transform the main plaza into a party sight as you are forced to chose a side in this heated debate to see which side will dominate. It seems we won’t see a third game for quite some time, so might as well jump back in.
Splatoon 2 is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, and the Splatfest will run from May 22nd to the 24th. A special demo will also come starting April 30th.
It’s a #Splatoon2 #Splatfest so contentious we have to do it twice! #TeamMayo and #TeamKetchup are back and it’s up to you to determine which sauce is the boss!
This bonus one-off Splatfest kicks off 5/22 at 3pm PT and ends 5/24 at 3pm PT. pic.twitter.com/n5Ar6EUkJ0
