Splatoon 3’s launch is right around the corner, and as the shooter draws closer to its release, Nintendo is continuing to ramp up its marketing cycle. Building off of its predecessor’s momentum, Splatoon 3 is, of course, going to bring millions of existing series fans back into the fold, but as is always the case with new releases, many players are going to be newcomers as well. For those in that group, Nintendo has released a new trailer that explains the basics of the series.

Starting off with the basics of what squids and inklings are, the video then explains how to win matches in Splatoon by covering more turf in paint using various weapons than opposing teams. It also discusses a few modes, like the Test Range where you can try out weapons, or Recon Mode, where you can explore the multiplayer maps at your leisure without having to worry about any opponents, and, of course, Story Mode, which is the single player campaign.

Splatoon 3 launches for Nintendo Switch on September 9, with its multiplayer demo (which will feature 26 weapons) kicking off on August 27. Nintendo will also be revealing more details and gameplay footage later today during a Nintendo Treehouse presentation.
