The open beta for Splitgate 2, the follow-up to the 2019 portal-hopping competitive shooter, begins on May 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. While a release date remains to be revealed, 1047 Games has outlined what players can expect when the open beta goes live, including nine maps and three modes.

The recently revealed map creator “The Lab” will be accessible alongside the beta battle pass and a new Power Weapon. You can also expect weekly playlists of “community favorites,” likely referring to user-created maps.

The open beta will remain live until the game’s launch this Summer when its big content update drops. It includes “massive” new modes, in-game events with rewards to earn, another new Power Weapon, competitions for map creators, and “monthly map releases, reskins, changes, and more.”

1047 Games is also teasing “one more massive surprise,” though your guess is as good as ours on what it could be. As for the future, additional weapons, maps, modes, events and skins will arrive alongside “more surprises” at an undetermined point. Stay tuned for more details, and head here to learn more about Splitgate 2’s new factions and abilities.
