CS Blog (via Kotaku) has reported on an early Famitsu leak wherein Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda revealed that a new console RPG that isn’t a remake is in the works. Matsuda stated that an announcement would be made in December.
“Actually, right now, we are readying a new role-playing game for home consoles that isn’t a remake. In December, we’ll start with making an announcement.”
This comes at a time when rumours are rife of a PS4-exclusive JRPG, one that may or may not be appearing at Sony’s PS Experience event.
But that’s not all. Matsuda also revealed that there would be other titles coming down the pipeline. “To avoid misunderstanding, among the forthcoming titles that do not include the home consoles, there are also various games bound for smartphones and PC. There are titles studios outside Japan are developing, too.
“Starting early next year, I think we’ll be announcing various types of titles. But at this stage, we cannot say which will be for home consoles or portables.”
Expect some more information as December rolls by. What are your thoughts on what the new RPG could be? Let us know in the comments.
