In light of its recently-revealed new mid-term business plans, Square Enix has now confirmed that it has cancelled games that didn’t align with its new strategy. In its latest earnings report (via VGC), the company has confirmed that a number of unannounced titles were cancelled, and that its profits being 70 percent lower than last year were a result of these cancellations.

While the company hasn’t revealed any details about these cancelled titles, the fact that the company’s new business strategy revolves around more multiplatform releases and a refocus on the concept of “fun”, it would be likely that these titles were potentially platform-exclusive titles that weren’t expected to make too much money. The company reported 22,087 million Yen in losses on these cancellations.

Square Enix’s new business plans, set to already be in motion, will continue on until at least 2025. As part of its plans, the company plans on focusing its publishing strategy to feature more multiplatform titles. Square Enix is also looking to expanding on its digital sales. The company has also earmarked 100 billion Yen for investments over the three-year period.
