Final Fantasy 7 Remake (1)

We’ve heard in the past about Square Enix’s Luminous Productions working on a new triple-A IP. There are also major titles like Final Fantasy 7 Remake that are due to launch in 2020. However, it seems the company is also working on a new property which could potentially release for the next generation of consoles.

On the Square Enix Japan site for recruitment, it says the First Development Division is working on a “next-generation action game experience”. This is being developed with an “international team of creators from all over the world” and looks to take “a step forward from the existing action game framework.” The title is listed as a “New IP for HD console”, but its release in the coming years would qualify it for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

The First Development Division should be familiar to long-time fans of the company. It’s developed the Romancing SaGa 3 remaster and Kingdom Hearts 3, while currently working on Final Fantasy 7 Remake. What could this new IP be, and who’s involved with it? We’ll have to wait for more information in the coming year.

As for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it’s out on March 3rd, 2020 for PS4.
