Square Enix started teasing something called ‘Destiny-VIII’ last week, and the tease got a fair number of people excited. This week Square Enix unveiled what was behind the tease. It is Glorious Blades: The Princess of Fate and the 8 Warriors, and it is a mobile title being developed by the well known mobile developer Gloops.

It has been confirmed for both iOS and Android (minimum requirements being Android 2.3 and iOS4), and it should be hitting both OS’s app stores sometime soon for download.

Personally, while this announcement is well and good, it represents another addition to a long list of disappointments by Square Enix as they transition to becoming a mobile games publisher. With their support for traditional handhelds all but dead, their support for traditional consoles outside of Eidos dying, Square is fast putting itself on a road to irrelevance in the AAA console and handheld market, one which it used to rule just a decade ago.

At least it is doing good in the mobile market though.

Stay tuned for more coverage.
