Cloud Imperium’s Star Citizen continues its record breaking run, having garnered over $48 million in funding, a staggering figure reached by having 498,342 backers. It’s even more amazing, because Star Citizen only just hit $47 million in finding back in June. It continues to garner money and funding at a truly unprecedented pace.

For those of you who somehow don’t know what the big deal with this game is, Cloud Imperium’s Star Citizen is the newest project by Chris Roberts, the same guy who brought us Wing Commander for PC. Being billed as a premier exclusive experience for PC, the game is due out next year, and continues to add an ever increasing amount of features as it racks up funding.

If Star Citizen reaches $49 million in finding- and come on, we know it will- Star Citizen backers will receive the Xi’An Space Plant, which is described as being similar to a bonsai tree. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for news on exactly when that happens.
