DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 followed FIFA 18 at EA’s Gamescom conference. Along with a “game engine” trailer showcasing some cinematic action, we also witnessed the debut of real-time gameplay for Starfighter Assault. This is the space combat that DICE has hyped up in the past several weeks and is set during the original trilogy.

Built by Criterion along with Motive and DICE, Starfighter Assault allows players to select different classes of ships. TIE-Bombers, A-Wings, Y-Wings, X-Wings and much more were on display and they each have their own advantages. The A-Wing, for instance, is fast and a “glass cannon” but can be destroyed fairly easily. Some special ships like Darth Maul’s are capable of traits like stealth camouflage.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is set to release on November 17th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Along with new multiplayer modes, a load-out system, free post-launch DLC and a wider range of planets and heroes, the game will also feature a single-player campaign taking place from Return of the Jedi onwards.
