With so many games adopting the free-to-play route, many have been wondering when Blizzard would do the same for World of Warcraft. And while it might be any time soon (the company recently announced Mists of Pandaria, an expansion to WoW), they’re not above looking at other titles for the same treatment, like Starcraft 2.
Speaking at the Valencia eSports Congress last week, Blizzard designer Dustin Browder spoke of the possibility in a panel discussion.
“That’s definitely an option for us at some point down the road. I don’t think there’s any reason why we wouldn’t, except to make sure we do it properly, that we don’t make any mistakes, and that we are supporting the fans the way we’re supposed to.”
Of course, he also talked about the problems associated with doing this, such as some players having an advantage over others because they paid for everything. But then, solutions, like selling entire races separately, have also been proposed.
