State of Play Potentially Happening on April 16, Possibly “Third-Party Focused” – Rumor

Insider NateTheHate isn't 100 percent confirmed on the details, but Sony's next showcase is reportedly much closer than expected.

State of Play

Insider NateTheHate is no stranger to buzz, but his recent tweets about a new State of Play possibly occurring well before June gained “unexpected attraction and buzz.” Although the confirmation was still pending on his end, he decided to share a potential date anyway: April 16th. About one week away.

This sounds about fitting, with Insomniac Games dropping new information on Marvel’s Wolverine, just as it promised multiple times for the Spring. Right? Not exactly. Instead, the insider heard that it’s “more third-party focused,” though again, “not 100 percent certain.” His reliability has been rock-solid until now, especially when it comes to showcases, but you may want to take things with a grain of salt this time around.

Of course, that only raises more questions. February’s State of Play was well-received and jam-packed with first and third-party reveals and announcements. Is there anything left for a showcase focused entirely on the latter? Perhaps Kena: Scars of Kosmora and Silent Hill: Townfall will appear with release dates. Time will tell.

This could also mean that a State of Play dedicated to Marvel’s Wolverine will take place later this month, if not in May. It wouldn’t be the first time – Horizon Forbidden West had such a showcase in May 2021, while Borderlands 4 had its own in April 2025. Either way, you probably shouldn’t expect it at next week’s State of Play, if it ends up real.
