It’s funny how Unknown Worlds’ Subnautica 2 apparently topped Steam wishlist charts for the longest time, but today it’s gone even further. The developer confirmed that it’s now reached five million wishlists across all platforms, just days before its early access launch. As a result, all players will receive the blueprint for the Reaper Leviathan Statue decoration for their bases instead of those who joined in the first week.
Prematurely revealed in February 2024, Subnautica 2 has had a bumpy journey throughout its development, including delays, a messy legal battle between Krafton and the studio’s founders, and more. Early access is finally available on May 14th for Xbox Series X/S and PC players (alongside Game Pass) and includes various biomes, multiplayer, and more.
If that’s too vague, you can rest assured that there will be “more biomes, creatures and Leviathans” than previous games’ early access launches (with an increased focus on aliens). And despite only offering “some narrative,” the recent gameplay trailer has us intrigued. What is the mysterious tree on this brand new planet, as seen in the incredible cinematic trailer? Why shouldn’t you heed its call? This and, hopefully, many other mysteries await.
Subnautica 2 will remain in early access for at least two years, though given the nature of early access, it could be longer.
