Indie studio Unknown Worlds Entertainment’s open world underwater survival title Sunautica has crossed a notable milestone in sales. Having launched in full after over three years in early access in January 2018, the game has now sold over 5 million units worldwide across all platforms.

The studio confirmed to GamesIndustry that Subnautica has sold a total of 5.23 million units across the PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Epic Games Store. This does not include any free downloads for the game during giveaways. For instance, the game was free on the Epic Games Store for two weeks in March 2019, during which period it was downloaded 4.5 million times.

Subnautica is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can read our full review of the game – in which we called the game “one of the better and relatively unique takes on the open-world survival genre” – through here. Meanwhile, a sequel, titled Subnautica: Below Zero, is also currently in development, and in fact entered early access about a year ago.
