Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker 2 was the subject of its most recent Nintendo Direct, with an in-depth look at the game’s systems and new content additions. There’s quite a lot to sink your teeth into, from a Story mode and new items to four player multiplayer. Check out the Direct presentation below.

Super Mario Maker 2’s Story mode is a nice surprise, offering more than 100 courses to play as you rebuild Peach’s castle. For the builders, there’s scroll-stopping, Snake Blocks, new course themes (Desert, Snow, Forest and Sky), and new sound effects. Super Mario 3D World has also been added as a game type, with its own unique items, mechanics, and enemies.

If that wasn’t enough, you can further change up existing courses with day and night versions. During night time, desert courses will have harsh winds, for example, and some items may even become transformed into monstrosities. New compositions by Mario series composer Koji Kondo have also been added. As for multiplayer, it throws in Luigi, Toad, and Toadette to participate in races. You can fight against a boss together, or even cooperate to finish a course.

Super Mario Maker 2 is out on June 28th for Nintendo Switch. If you’re keen on uploading and downloading courses (i.e. the entire point of the game), you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. You can pick up Super Mario Maker 2 as part of a $69.99 bundle that also includes 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online. There’s another offer that provides two vouchers for full games on the eShop at just $99.99, which is valid for a year. A membership with Nintendo Switch Online is still required though.
