As has been the trend in the United States for several months running now, the Nintendo Switch was the highest selling console in the country for the month of October 2019, as per sales data provided by the NPD Group (via GamesBeat). It is, once again, the only platform to show year-over-year growth in sales, both for the month of October, and for the year as a whole.
The PS4, in spite of slowing down (which is understandable, given that the PS5 launches in a year from now), is still selling at a fast pace, all things considered. It is the third fastest-selling console in US history, with the PS2 and the Wii being the only two consoles to have higher sales in the US at this same point in their respective life cycles.
Hardware spending in October 2019 was overall down from October 2018 by 41 per cent. Meanwhile, year-to-date hardware spending is down year-on-year by 23 per cent, to $2.1 billion.
Things were much more eventful (and less predictable) on the software side of things. You can check out those charts through here.
