It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long since we’ve had a new BioShock title, and nearly seven years since the next one was confirmed to be in development.
That new game’s certainly seen some turbulence, and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick hasn’t been shy about expressing his regrets over the time lost. In an interview with Game File, he elaborated on how the project had been unable to take shape until a recent change in leadership over at developer Cloud Chamber. When asked if he was surprised that the new game has taken so long to get where it is, Zelnick chose another emotion instead.
“I think if you’re saying ‘disappointed,’ yes. Deeply disappointed. I think finding the right creative purchase was hard, as it turns out. I think we, in retrospect, wasted a lot of time and money chasing down some creative alleys that turned out to be dead ends.”
Well, kudos to the team for remaining objective enough to know when their efforts to create a BioShock title that would put the franchise back on the map weren’t cutting it, but we’re hoping to hear more about the new game after Rod Fergusson, fresh off helping to ship Diablo 4, has taken over. Zelnick seems happy with what’s been achieved so far, going as far as to say the team is trying to turn a “good” game into a “great” one.
It might still be a long way away, but we can only hope that the wait is worth it when BioShock 4 or whatever it’s called is finally in our hands.
