A very different looking kart racer from something like Mario Kart.

Sega are bringing Sonic back for a third stab at kart racing with Team Sonic Racing. As the name might have tipped you off, this new game doesn’t actually feature the expanded Sega cast of characters like Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed did, but is rather exclusively limited to the Sonic canon (I shudder at the thought of there being a Sonic canon…), featuring teamwork as a central mechanic.

So, how does that all work, you ask? Glad you did. This brand new video for the game, which you can see for yourself below, shows the various racing and teamwork mechanics at work in this game. It looks like a substantially different kart racer than something like Mario Kart based on what we can see here. It will be interesting to see what developers Sumo Digital (who also helmed the previous two Sonic racing games) can manage with this one.

Team Sonic Racing launches this December, for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
