Tekken 8 Supports Haptic Feedback and 3D Audio on PS5

Players can feel the Heat System and stage destruction through the controller's "rumbles and haptics," with 7.1.4ch audio in Story Mode.

Fighting game fans can look forward to an immersive experience in Tekken 8, courtesy of the visuals and Unreal Engine 5. However, there’s even more immersion when playing on PlayStation 5. The PlayStation Blog reports that it will support the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback.

“Haptic feedback plays an important role, as a means of providing an exciting experience that brings the idea of all-out combat and destruction to life.” Whether it’s Rage Arts, the Heat System activating or destruction in stages, they’ll all be conveyed “through the rumbles and haptics of the controller.” Interestingly, this extends to Story Mode with clashes between fighters and “subtle vibrations of characters riding their motorcycles.”

There’s also support for 3D audio, with formats like Ambisonics and object-based audio used. “We leveraged these methods for everything, including sound effects during battles, stage ambience, various gimmicks, and even reverb. This provides players with a more realistic and lifelike sound experience.” Players can also expect 7.1.4ch audio in the Story Mode’s cutscenes.

Tekken 8 launches on January 26th, 2024, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Along with Story Mode, the developer revealed a new mode at Gamescom Opening Night Live – Arcade Quest. You customize avatars and partake in a story focused on the fighting game arcade scene. You can customize fighters with different outfits and accessories, though more gameplay details are yet to be revealed.
