Lone wolfing
I don’t care how good you think you are at this game, if it involves teamwork, you will just get cut down if you go out there alone. Now when it comes to your Halos and Call of Duties this isn’t the biggest of issues, but have you ever tried playing Left 4 Dead with these lone ranger types? A case study in point is the sheer amount of people who choose the role of the sniper in class based multiplayer titles. They want the thrill of setting up roost alone, only to get stabbed in the back for failing to set up anywhere near their team. Load up a game on any of the Battlefield titles and you’ll see what I mean.
Quitting early
One normally associates sore losers with children, so I’m always surprised by how many big kids populate the online world, and on games that they aren’t old enough to play no less. It isn’t too bad on titles that allow others to join mid-session, but early quitters have plagued many games of Halo in my time. Let’s not forget also how damn hard it is to actually finish a one on one game online without getting your foe leaving as well. To this day I have yet to actually win a game of Street Fighter 4 online, with all my opponents fleeing the moment I near victory.
Tea-bagging
You just can’t win ’em all, a sad fact that we all have to come to terms with from time to time. Games are meant to be fun, but we always want to win, and it can leave you mildly crestfallen if you don’t. Do you know what doesn’t help those post-loss blues? A guy shoving his digital nut sack in your face after he kills you. There’s got to be some kind of clause in the Geneva convention that sets this as a war crime. That said, we’ve already fully established that the internet is a lawless place. It seems then I can only rely on vigilante justice to punish those cretins who would hump my corpse so mercilessly. That said, I do get a real kick when they get sniped by someone else on my team whilst they are in the middle of their vile actions. Karma is indeed a bitch.
