The RROD
It wouldn't be fair if I laid in to Nintendo and Sony without giving some grief to Microsoft for their initial hardware blunders. Roughly a third of all initial Xbox 360 runs were subject to some form of failure that was supposedly fixed in later editions. When many new model 360 began experiencing a frequent error with a different name though, conspiracy theories were abound that Microsoft had reprogrammed the fatal RROD (red ring of death) in order to cheat customers out of their warranty. It was a dark business indeed, costing Microsoft millions in sales and warranty extensions. It just goes to show, you shouldn't cut corners when it comes to solder.
