6. Super Mario Bros. 2
Despite being initially developed as another game entirely and given the Mario brand to save the west from the flabbergasting difficulty of the Mario sequel Japan received, Super Mario Bros. 2 was still a worthy follow up. That was until right at the end, where it was all revealed to have been a dream. Any piece of media that ends in this way (without setting it up from the beginning as in Link's Awakening) needs some serious re-evaluation, as that kind of an ending is rarely excusable.
