Bethesda, the company behind the wildly popular The Elder Scrolls franchise have been well known to be quite coy about the status of a particular game right up until the moment they are ready to announce its existence and release date. The company actually seems to be getting even more coy as the years pass and the firm gets better at putting out rather large games quickly.
Those who think the lack of mention of Skyrim 2 or Elder Scrolls 6 so far means it likely won’t get a mention this year, are likely forgetting the saga of Fallout 4. That game was one people were clamoring for longer than most people can remember. Year after year Bethesda would say they didn’t have anything to announce in regards to another Fallout. That even held true at the beginning of last year. Then suddenly, just before E3 the rumblings got louder. Bethesda finally announced they were bringing Fallout 4 to market and best of all, they were releasing in November.
The excitement around that announcement was epic back then but would Bethesda duplicate it again this year, given that the company has confirmed its second press conference ever at E3 this June? It seems quite unlikely and there are a number of reasons for that. Bethesda has plans for more future DLC for Fallout 4 along with potential sequels for The Evil Within and MachineGames’ Wolfenstein, not to mention Dishonored 2 that was announced at last year’s conference. Just announcing these games will make their conference something to watch out for.
While Fallout 4 might have a more devoted following, there are still plenty of people who would love to get an E3 present in the form of a new Elder Scrolls game but in all likely hood, the game will probably not be announced for a long time (my guess is sometime in 2017).
However, if the company could announce that the game was also going to be coming out in November, that would be quite the shocker.
