The gaming industry is one that is growing at a rapid rate. The Game Awards had taken place on December 7th and we got ample evidence of the explosion of interest in gaming from the increased viewership of this event.
Last year, The Game Awards attracted a total of 3.8 million viewers who tuned into its livestream at some point. This year however, that figure has tripled with a total viewership of 11.5 million. Geoff Keighley, the host and executive producer of The Game Awards expressed how the whole team is “thrilled by the viewership. engagement and reaction to The Game Awards this year.” He also went on to note the increased engagement with videos games that we are seeing and saw it as a sign of how “video games and gamers continue to grow in importance and prominence on the pop culture landscape.”
As more and more people are drawn into engaging with video games, we will be seeing these numbers continue to grow throughout the coming years. This is also great for the industry as a whole since we can hope to see more diverse games gain a stronger presence in the market due to an expansion of the gaming community. All in all, it’s a good time for gaming, all things considered.
