Joel and Ellie are both equally vital pieces in the puzzle that is The Last of Us’ story, but the former took charge in the first game, at last as far as being the primary playable protagonist was concerned. Though Ellie was, of course, playable for a decent chunk of the game, we still saw the story through Joel’s perspective for the vast majority of the game. The Last of Us Part 2 is turning the tables, and this team, Ellie is taking the lead role. Joel is still going to be a crucial character and will play a major role in the story, but Ellie will be the central playable character. Is it possible that, harkening back to the first game, we will be allowed to play as Joel for a particular section in the upcoming sequel? We certainly hope so.
