the last of us part 2

Like every other media production, The Last of Us’ second season on HBO was held up for several months by the writers and actors strikes in Hollywood, but with the strikes now having wrapped up, the show is preparing to move ahead for next steps.

Production on HBO’s second season of The Last of Us is set to begin on January 7, as per film and TV production tracking website Production List. Like the first season, season 2 will also be filmed in Canada, though this time, production is moving westward to British Columbia (specifically, Vancouver) instead of Alberta.

Additionally, it looks like another crucial detail regarding the show’s casting has also emerged, with journalist Jeff Sneider reporting that Kaitlyn Dever – best known for her roles in Unbelievable, Dopesick, and Justified, among others – is “in talks” to play Abby in season 2, who, as those who’ve played The Last of Us Part 2, has a crucial role to play in the show’s upcoming events. As per Sneider, Dever is being cast on the back off her performance in sci-fi horror film No One Will Save You, which released earlier this year.

Interestingly enough, Dever was one of several actors who auditioned for the role of Ellie, even getting as far as doing a table read. She was also frequently held up as one of the likeliest choices for the role by fans of the games prior to the beginning of production on season 1 of the show. With production on season 2 set to begin soon, we should be getting official details on casting in the not-too-distant future.

The Last of Us Season 2 – which won’t be covering the entirety of the second game – is set to premier in 2025.
