The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
An all new structure
The Legend of Zelda games have traditionally followed a similar structure ever since the franchise’s inception- you go to a set number of dungeons to collect some items and then fight the final boss, with some deviations and tweaks in each game. We’re not complaining, there hasn’t been a single Zelda game that we didn’t like (CDi games not included), but it’d be refreshing to see Zelda changing its ways. We don’t really know just how much of a change the structure will see, but we do know it’s supposed to be something major. We can’t wait to see just how major it is.
Nerdgasm for Zelda fans
The creation of the Master Sword, of Hyrule, of the Zora, of the Sheikah, the origins story of Ganon- the damned prequel to the entire series, explaining the creation and origins of so many things in the franchise that we’ve all taken for granted for so long. It’s like paradise for Zelda fans. And anyone who’s seen the recent origins trailer will know what I’m talking about. More than anything else, I want to buy Skyward Sword because of the backstory it will provide for the series.
100 hours
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is supposed to be a 100 hour long game, Nintendo announced some time ago, if you complete all side quests and the main story. I’d say that’s more than competitive enough for Skyrim, which offers about the same amount of gameplay time. Skyward Sword looks like it’ll be great value for money, with tons of stuff to do and innumerable gameplay hours to clock in.
It’s Zel-freaking-da
Above all the innumerable new features and refinements that Skyward Sword will be offering, what matters most and what makes the game so highly anticipated is the fact that it is a freaking Zelda game. And when has any Zelda game ever been bad? Even Twilight Princess, which people thought was disappointing at first, is a very well made game that is by no means “bad”. Skyward Sword looks to be the best Zelda game in years, and that is saying something, given the series’ recent track record. New structure, new features or no, we want to play this game. Now.
Conclusion
Wow, this is a toughy. Both of them look to be extremely high quality games, with tons of features, and it looks like both of them will be great value for money. But ultimately, which one will be better? In our opinion, both of them look excellent, the top two contenders for the GOTY title, but Skyward Sword wins it by a very tiny margin. We feel that Zelda has a much better track record that Elder Scrolls does, plus Nintendo, as a developer, are more experienced than Bethesda. Also, Skyrim will definitely have a lot of glitches, which will definitely bring down the experience somewhat. But we still feel Skyrim will be absolutely wonderful, we’re in no way saying it will be a bad game. We just feel that Skyward Sword will be better than it, if by a very negligible margin.
