Game Overview:
The Witcher 4 is an action RPG developed and published by CD Projekt RED.
Ciri stars as the game’s protagonist, making it the first game in the series to not feature Geralt of Rivia as its protagonist.
"We're not suddenly making up stuff just because we want to. We really want to take these things seriously," says narrative director Philipp Weber.
"Yes, this game will be pretty big," per CD Projekt RED's Sebastian Kalemba. "It will be big compared to everything we’ve prepared so far."
The Witcher returns with a new protagonist- here's what you should know,
Jo Wyatt, who voiced Ciri in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has been replaced by Ciara Berkeley for the upcoming The Witcher 4.
Game director Sebastian Kalemba reveals additional details on the newly revealed action RPG in an official trailer breakdown.
The next instalment in the series will maintain continuity with The Witcher 3 regardless of how your story ended in that game.
“[We’re giving] more tools for players' disposal, to be able to not only play and go with the consequences narratively, but also gameplay-wise,” says game director Sebastian Kalemba.
Though Ciri will be the protagonist in the next Witcher title, former protagonist Geralt will return, as will voice actor Doug Cockle.
The next instalment in the Witcher saga – which also kicks off a new trilogy – has been officially unveiled at The Game Awards.
However, crumbs and tidbits related to the game may (and likely will) be shared prior to its official announcement.
The developer also insists it will avoid another rushed and troubled launch similar to what Cyberpunk 2077 had to endure in 2020.
Codenamed Project Polaris, the fantasy action RPG was in pre-production for over two years, and is confirmed to be the beginning of a new trilogy.
The development team on Project Polaris has "made substantial progress" and is ready to wrap up pre-production soon, as per CFO Piotr Nielubowicz.
"What we know is that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don't know how much, and the game won't focus on Geralt," says actor Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt.
Project Orion associate game director Paweł Sasko reiterates the next mainline Witcher title will begin production this year.
There are no longer any developers at CD Projekt RED who are working on Cyberpunk 2077, the company has revealed.
"We will be adding new gameplay elements and new mechanics that you have not seen in our previous games," says co-CEO Michał Nowakowski.
Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2 and Fool's Theory remake of the first Witcher are both in the concept stage of production.
The first instalment in the fantasy series' next trilogy will have around 400 people working on it by the middle of this year.
"I believe I can say it'll be an excellent entry point for many players, without forgetting the long-time fans who still wish to follow Geralt's adventures," says CDPR's Sebastian Kalemba.
CD Projekt RED is slowly ramping up production on the next Witcher title, with almost half the studio now working on the game.
Cyberpunk 2077's launch and post-launch have been learning experiences for the developer- but what should be CDPR's biggest takeaways?
Some developers will support Phantom Liberty after it launches in September. Others will shift to Project Orion and Project Hadar.
The developer says the engine was "one of the reasons behind saying we want to release three big Witcher games within six years."
CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński says the remake is "based in big part on technologies from Polaris" and will be developed "partially in parallel."
Over 150 developers are working on Polaris. After its launch, the next two titles in this new Witcher trilogy will launch within a six-year period.
"Like the first saga was three games, so now we are thinking about more than one game," said CD Projekt's Adam Kiciński about the new saga.
Though it's going to be several years before the next Witcher game launches, we're already hoping for it to make some key changes.
Marketing will begin in the second half of 2022 for Cyberpunk 2077's first expansion with the majority of CD Projekt RED involved.
Director Jason Slama cites the need for a "really stable environment" to make changes without breaking "1,600 other places down the line."
Jason Slama, who's been confirmed as the game director of the upcoming Witcher sequel, says CD Projekt RED is going to avoid crunch during the project's development.
Despite its partnership with Epic Games, CD Projekt RED is "not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront."
The fantasy universe will return after CDPR have completed their sci-fi epic.
CD Projekt RED CEO also briefly discusses a second project currently in development.
Doug Cockle, the one who voices Geralt of Rivia, says that he would like to see The Witcher 4 explore Ciri's adventures.
"It’s time for Cyberpunk 2077."
Let's hope it's every bit as great as Wild Hunt was, though.
He also discusses a possible role in CyberPunk.
Can a trilogy really have a fourth part?
CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski does feel the universe is great for telling more stories though.
