In a recent interview with Forbes, Microsoft employee Albert Panello revealed and confirmed that Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One was very nearly named The Xbox Infinity.

In the interview, Panello said that the ultimate decision to call the console the Xbox One was a direct result of Microsoft’s marketing team, adding, “That’s actually from the brand guys. The name is all them. We just wanted to make sure the hardware was solid. What it was called was top secret, even for many people on the team.”

Panello then offered some background on the former orking name for the system, speculating as to the potential motives of Microsoft’s marketing team. “The name Xbox Infinity was in the running, I can say that. [The marketing team is] crafty. Who’s to say that they didn’t leak that name out in the weeks ahead of the launch? They are very crafty.”

This confirms leaks which occurred much earlier in the development of the Xbox One. Do you think the leaks were a marketing ploy?
