Nightdive Studios and Eidos Montreal have announced that Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch on December 4th. Based on Looking Glass Studios’ 1998 first-person stealth classic, often considered one of the greatest games ever made, it will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch for $29.99.
That’s for the Standard Edition. The Digital Deluxe Edition retails for $34.99 and includes the soundtrack, a Thief: The Dark Project novel preview, and “A Remaster Diary” book. If you’re keen on a physical copy, it will be available for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 courtesy of Clear River Games (alongside Steelbook and Trapezoid Box options).
If you’ve never played it, which is entirely possible, given how niche Looking Glass Studios’ titles were, Thief is about Garrett, a Master Thief who’s all about stealing treasure. Unlike first-person titles, mostly shooters, at the time, it focused on using darkness to your advantage, using a wide range of tools to neutralize and outsmart enemies, and even minimizing noise.
Thanks to Nightdive’s KEX Engine, you can experience the classic at up to 4K and 120 FPS with features like motion/gyro controls, a weapon and item wheel, mission replay, and visual improvements. It includes all the content from Thief: Gold, a Vault with behind-the-scenes footage, and a new campaign, The Tarnished Mirror (which you can check out the reveal trailer for below).
