Respawn Entertainment surprised many Titanfall fans when it announced that to celebrate the one year anniversary of its multiplayer FPS, it would be making all of the DLC maps free on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. The offer wasn’t for a limited time offer – players can pick up the nine different maps completely free of charge forever.

Furthermore, Respawn has added the maps to the regular playlists. As programmer Rayme Vinson said on Twitter, “Now that our DLC maps are free (forever, etc), we’re starting to merge them into almost every playlist. This’ll also improve matchmaking.”

Titanfall released in March 2014 and garnered quite the critical response. In terms of active users, the number has slowly dwindled, especially due to DLC map packs “fracturing” the community according to several players. Titanfall 2 is on the way for PS4, Xbox One and PC but it’ll be interesting to see if adding the original’s DLC to regular map rotations will help carry it till the sequel’s release.
