The PS VR2 launched earlier this year, bringing with it the promise of better and more powerful hardware than its predecessor, though seemingly, it hasn’t got off to a great start. Though Sony has said that there’s a good chance the new headset ends up outselling the original PS VR, reports have claimed that it managed to sell just 270,000 units in its first few weeks on the market.

Sony, however, seems reluctant to give a statement one way or another about how the PS VR2 is doing. When asked about the device and how it’s performing in a recent interview with Famitsu, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said that it’s “a little early” to judge that right now, though the company is “happy to see” positive reception from players and critics, before going on to add that the headset has “many titles” in the pipeline for this year and beyond.

“PS VR2 has just been launched, so it may be a little early to judge its popularity, but we are happy to see many positive reactions from users and the media,” Ryan said. “I just listed some of the compatible titles, but more than 40 titles have been released around the launch of PS VR2. In addition, there are many titles ahead of us in 2023 and beyond. We will continue to push forward so that those who purchase PS VR2 can enjoy it for a long time and we can also secure profits.”

Prior to the PS VR2’s launch, it was reported that Sony had slashed its internal shipment forecast for the headset by half due to disappointing pre-order numbers, which in turn were driven by its high price. Meanwhile, last month it was claimed that Sony had cut its production plans for PS VR2 by about 20%.

New PS VR2 titles will be announced soon, with Sony having officially announced a PlayStation Showcase for May 24.
